(From Our Own Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, July 31. HOSPITAL BENEFIT DANCE. As the result of the old-time dance held here recently the sum of £10" 18s lOd has been handed over to the Hospital Committee,. HOCKEY. The- annual • hockey fixture between Tuapekaar;d Mahiototo was played here on Saturday in the presence. of a fair attendance of spectators. Both teams gave a good exhibition of hockey and the match ended in favour of Maniototo by 3 goals to 1. In the evening the teams were the guests of the Tuapeka Hbckey Association at dinner. FOOTBALL. On Saturday Miller's Flat beat Roxburgh by 11 points to. 5, and Ettriek defeated Coal Creek by 13 points to 3. Ettriek becomes -the premier team - for this season and wins the banner, and for the Stevenson Cur will play against Miller's Flat or Coal Creek. GOLF. The semi-final, of the Men's Knockout Competition played on Saturday, resulted as follows:— J? Jeffery beat F. J. Laloli; J. Logan beat A. Scolon. In the Men's Medal Competition!.the following were the scores: —J. Pannctt 91—30—61, A. Alexander 100—26—74, H. Vernon 108—30—78, N. Sandes 85— 6—79; F.W. Dingwall 99—18—81, G. H. Gifford 98—17—Si; B. Jeffery 105— 23—82, A. Lamb-96—14—82, G. Jeffery 112—18—94. The Ladies' Knock-out Competition was advanced another stage. The following are the results':—Miss Gilmour beat Miss Uren.. Mrs N. Sandes. beat .Mrs Gilmour, Mrs George beat Mrs Laloli, Miss J. George beat Mrs Uren. The ladies also played a match over 10 holes, with', the following scores :- Mrs Wilson 63, Miss" 'Watson; 64; Miss Wright 68. "MW Vernon 76, Miss M'Ciilloch 78, Miss Binder 79, Mrs Burgess 80, Mrs Alexander 84, Mrs. Macdonald 88. ' .■•■'■ The course is in first-class order, and special attention is ' being given to the greens:in readiness tor the annual tournament, which has been fixed for August 22 and 23 (ladies) and 25 and 26 (men). OBITUARY. Residents of the district will regret to learn of the death, which occurred at her residence, Raetihi, on July 29, of Mrs Laloli. Mrs Laloli was born in Roxburgh and was the only daughter of Mr and Mrs Ewen Butler, former residents of this district. In 1910 she shifted with her parents. to the North Island, but returned again in 1915, when she married Mr A. G. Laloli, who was then in business here. After the war Mr Laloli went into business in Raetihi, and since 1919 his* wife resided there. For many years prior to her death Mrs Laloli had hot enjoyed good health, but possessed remarkable spirit and a happy and bright disposition. About two years ago she underwent a serious operation, and though she realised that it meaiit only a partial recovery she maintained her brightness and bore her suffering without complaint. The interment took place at Raetihi.
