“UNCLE TOM'S CABIN”
TO THE EDITOR.Sib, —In view of the I fact that the hundredth anniversary of the abolition of slavery is now being celebrated at Home, there are some who, maybe, would find interest in the following' incident:— When I was a boy my father took my. sister and myself for a trip through the Trossachs. We travelled by coach, and in the vehicle was a little old lady, dressed in black, who made our acquaintance and ga.ve us some biscuits from ner bag. At the end of the journey my father told us that our companion was no other than Harriet Beecher Stowe, the famous authoress of " Uncle Tom's Cabin," which book {played so important a part in stimulating the anti-slave movement in America.—l am, etc., G.
