MOSGIEL CITIZENS' ASSOCIATION

Mr H. Miller presided over last night's meeting of the Mosgiel Citizens' Association. There was a fair attendance. The town clerk, Green Island, advised that his borough council was seeking to have the train services between Dunedin and Mosgiel improved and sought the co-operation of the association.—The chairman and Mr G. Gibson were appointed delegates to attend the conference suggested. The town clerk, Mosgiel, notified that the following matters which had been brought before them by the association were receiving attention: —Removal of refuse, trees over-hanging footpaths, and horsemen riding on footpaths. —Received. The chairman reported on the visit of the association's delegates to the last meeting of the borough council. The matter of improvements to the local post office or the erection of a new building altogether was discussed.—lt was resolved to prepare requisitions for signature to present to the department. Dissatisfaction was expressed at the answer received from the department to representations already made. A list of fares was laid on the table, showing a comparison of railway fares in the Auckland district as compared with Dunedin district. To Croydon road (Auckland), 10 miles out from the city, a first return fare is Is Cd, and second return Is; workers' weekly 3s 3d. To Mosgiel from Dunedin the respective fares were 2s fld and Is 8d; workers' weekly 4s. Other distances were shown in proportion. It was felt that the time was ripe to ask (lie department to reduce the Dunedin section to the same level as Auckland. Messrs Hodgson and M'Killop were appointed delegates to attend the Borough Council meeting on Wednesday evening. The necessity for enlarging the band rotunda in the park so as to accommodate the present bands was discussed. It was decided to make inquiries as to cost before taking any further step.
