Twice a day a Royal Air Force pilot climbs 20,000 feet—nearly four miles—into the air from Duxford Aerodrome, near Cambridge, to take meteorological observations for the British Air Ministry. The flights are part of the routine work of the pilots at the aerodrome, and th<3 one whose turn of duty it is wears electrically-heated clothing in view of the intense cold —sometimes 72deg of frost — at such an altitude. The temperature i» taken every 2000 feet. Other meteorological observations are made and art collated in London.
