AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE
EARLY START ANTICIPATED MONEY SAID TO BE AVAILABLE (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 19. A highly important development in connection with the proposal to construct a bridge across Waitemata Harbour is announced. This, according to the bridge company, will make an early start with the undertaking assured. The directors to-day announced that they had received advice from England that the £1,500,000 is ready and available to build the bridge, provided that certain financial details are settled locally. During the past few days these details have been adjusted so far as New Zealand is concerned. All that remains is for these details to be completed in London, and the company cabled to London to-day with that end in view. The directors also recorded appreciation of the services of Mr A. Harris, M.P., in negotiating in Wellington for such conditions as are necessary to enable the company to take advantage of the offer. It has been estimated that the bridge will provide work for 400 men for three years, apart from indirect benefits.
