AIR MAIL SCHEME
GERMANY TO SOUTH AMERICA BERLIN, June 9. For the first time the Dornier Wal seaplane D 2069 Monsum, has crossed the South Atlantic, between Bathurst, on the west coast of Africa, and Natal, in Brazil. This is part of a practical experimental programme now being tried out by the German Air Hansa, with the object ultimately of installing a regular air post service to South America. According to the plan, the trip was made in two stages, the journey being broken by landing on the “ floating island ” in mid-South Atlantic, recently installed by the North German Lloyd, consisting of the converted steamer Westphalen. The restart from the Westphalen was made by the use of the new Heinkel catapault. The Reich Minister of Aviation sent a telegram of congratulation to the German Air Hansa, expressing the hope that very soon the new air service line will be running regularly, as projected. «
