BRONZE MEDAL AWARDED FIRST MATE OF SOUTHERN GROSS. LONDON, June 14. The King has awarded the bronze medal for gallantry in saving life at sea to James William Scott, first mate of the missionary steamer Southern Cross, for swimming ashore with a line despite storms, darkness, and sharks, when the vessel was wrecked on October 31 last at Anietyum Island.
