THE NEW FOOTWEAR SCHEME

\ N TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I think that the is to be greatly commended upon instituting a scheme whereby the unemployed and their families may obtain footgear at a reasonable price. The price of drapery and of meat and other foodstuffs has been reduced, but after perusing a recent catalogue from a leading firm of boot importers and manufacturers I must say that the prices, especially of children’s footwear, appear exorbitant for the times through which we are passing. Girls’ shoes, size 3, were priced at 14s 6d to 16s 6d for stronv wide-toed ones.—l am, etc., Down On Mx Uppers.
