TAPANUI NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, June 14, MAGISTRATE’S COURT. A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held to-day before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M. Judgment by default wa« given for Shepherd and Strong against Ernest Mason for £l6 2s, with costs (£3 12s), being the balance due for work done and materials supplied. For allowing cattle to be at large on the county roads George Carter, of Heriot, was fined 5s and costs (12s); John Waite was fined 5s and costs (10s); William Spillane was fined 20s and costs (10s). FOOTBALL. The West Otago Sub-union matches played on Saturday resulted: — Heriot defeated Union on the former’s ground by six points to nil. Waipahi and Waikaka drew, no score. The match Tapanui v. Waikoikoi, played on • the local ground, was stopped by the -referee seven minutes before half time owing to the conduct of the players and two visiting spectators. During the early part of the spell two players were ordered off for fighting, but notwithstanding this and further warning by the referee, the play right to the abandonment was very willing. SHOOTING. The Tapanui Defence Rifle Club fired its third cup match on Wednesday under very rough and wintry conditions, and as a consequence there was .a poor muster of riflemen.
