MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

OTAGO ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the executive of the Otago' Miniature Rifle Association was held on Tuesday night for the purpose of considering the draft syllabus submitted by the Syllabus Committee. The draft with, two minor alterations, was adopted. The season was opened three weeks ago with a sweepstake match, the prize winners in order of merit being as follows:—A. Bowman, C. H. M'Nish, P. Rowntree, A. M'Donald, Mies Leppingwell, S. Smith, C. Gamble, J. A.' Bevin, J. Armstrong, H. Berland, R. Bruce, jun., H. Webb. Owing to the fact that the Drill Hall has been required for the Exhibition, the teams matches had to be postponed for a fortnight, the first match on the syllabus being an A Grade match between the Dunedin and D.S.A. Clubs. This match will be fired at the Drill Hall on Monday evening. The Dunedin team for the occasion is as follows:—Gillick, Johnston; G. H. Smith, Marks, Wignall, Crimp, Hands, Webb, Bruce, and M'Nish. The emergencies, are Pinder and North. On Tuesday night the Ladies' National Reserve No. 2 will meet Citizens' No. 2, and Ladies' National Reserve No. 1 will meet Railway Ladies. Both matches will be fired at the Drill Hall. On Wednesday an A Grade match between Railway and the Returned Soldiers' Association will be fired on the railway range. On Thursday evening an A Grade match between Barnetts and Speights will be fired at the Drill Hall, and on the same evening two B Grade matches will be fired. C.F.H. No. 2 will meet Railway on Hudson's range, and Citizens' No. 1 will meet D.S.A. on the Town Hall range. The syllabus provides for 111 interclub matches, which will have to be fired on the 80 shooting nights between May 15 and the end of September. The A Grade teams will shoot a match and a return match with each club, and the B Grade a single round of matches.

LADIES' NATIONAL RESERVE. The Ladies' National Reserve Miniature Rifle Club held its practice on Wednesday night at rifle range, and the following had to shoot off in the semifinal and final, shot for shot, for the Handicap Button:—Miss T. Anderson, Mrs J. Bradley, Miss E. Cameron, Miss Carter, Miss G. Manson, Mrs R. Pinder, Miss J. Manson. Mrs Bradley was the winner. Miss Melville won the rifle badge for the highest shot off the rifle.
