Lambourne (chief inspector of primary schools) has been appointed the new Director of Education, in succession to Mr T. B. Strong, who has re---» tired. The Minister of Education (Mr E. Masters) stated that, as the result of conferences with the Public Service Coipmissioner, an announcement would- be made in a few days in respect of another officer who would be responsible for the administrative, as distinct from the professional work of the department. It was not proposed to restrict this appointment to* members of the Education Department, or even to officers of the public service, but applications would be invited throughout the Dominion-.
