BLANKETS FOR CAMPS

The Unemployment Board, has replied as follows to the Unemployment Committee:—“l have to advise you, in accordance with the promise made, that the • Defence Department has been approached in an endeavour to secure, on behalf of your organisation, a loan of blanket* for issue to relief workers proceeding to camps in the Otago district, but I regret very much that, in view of the. necessity for conserving the present stocks of blankets for use at territorial militarytraining camps, the Defence Department states that such cannot be made available for the purpose desired.” The Mayor (Mr Blhck) states that he is dissatisfied with the reply. The volunteer military forces were now down to low limits, and the blankets could be better employed in camps than remaining in the store*. Further action would be taken.
