BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

ANNUAL SWIMMING SPORTS W„ JARVIS WINS SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP JUNIOR TITLE TO S. JARVIS.

The annual swimming sports of the Otago Boys’ High School were held in. the Municipal Baths yesterday afternoon, when a large gallery of spectators watched a lengthy and interesting programme of events. Although entries in the championship events were limited to two, and in the longer races to one, the standard of the swimming was remarkably high, as canhe judged from the fact that every junior record in every style was broken, while the record figures in two of the senior races were lowered. Sydney Jarvis, who took the Junior Championship, established the unique, record of not only winning every championship event in which he started, but also in lowering the record in each case. Commencing with 33 1-3 Yards Championship, in which he bettered the existing figures (18 2-ssec) by 1 2-sseo, he won the 66 2-3 Yards event in 39sec—3 2-ssec faster than the previous best time, the 100 Yards in 66 4-sscc, compared with the existing record of 70 4-Ssec, aud the 33 1-3 Yards Backstroke in 23 4-6 sec, for which the record was 33 2-ssec. His brother, Walter, who won the Senior Championship, was also victorious in all his events, and was successful in establishing a new record for the 220 Yards, in which race he clipped 4 2-ssec off the existing record figures (2min 51 2-ssec). G. Ruston and C. Elliott, winners of the Junior and Senior Breaststroke Championships respectively, also lowered the records in their events. Following are the results: — CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS.
