THE WAITAKI ELECTRIC POWER

BOARD TO THE EDITOR. -7 Sip,,—-One would almost think from reading the effusions of Mr Robert Milligan that certain members of the Waitaki Electric Power Board were men very much below the average intelligence, or -purposely sat on the board to further the interests of the' engineers at the consumers cost. Would it not be possible for Mr Milligan to produce his arguments without so much rise of personalities? It looks migliiiy like propaganda and cheap advertising. The members he specifically mentions are very excellent citizens, who in business have the confidence of hundreds of their fellow-townsmen. It is somewhat difficult to believe (as Mr Milligan would have us) that they are led by the nose by the engineer-manager. It may be that some of these men have changed their minds regarding the of the Power Board, but there are,.two sides to these questions, and well Mr Milligan knows it. Ever since Mr Milligan has been prominent in municipal and local politics I have supported him, but the bitterness which he exhibits has. had the effect of weakening rather than cementing my confidence in him. Meet people can see as far through a brick wall as he can, and one does not need to use a microscope to discover that all he fiesircs is the defeat of certain gentlemen on election day. The insinuation that an official “ runs the show ” may tickle, the ear of some people, but they have, to admit that he has “run the show’’.with profit to the ratepayer and consumer alike, just as Mr Milligan has run his business with profit to himself. The responsibility for the success of the North Otago ele> tricity scheme largely rests, :with the engineer-manager, and to him most rate-, payers will prefer to pin their faith.—l am, etc., ■ CONSUMER.
