THE WAITAKI POWER BOARD
, , TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—At a recent meeting of the Wai» taki Power Board a lot of hot air wai released regarding the so-called “two engineers.” Now what of these two engineers? Is it not a fact that they .are the only two officers left of the five who were employed at' one time during the reticulation period, and Is not one of the “two engineers” the manager of tho ! whole concern, including the power House, [ while the other is largely engaged on deI tail work required fay the Public Works ! regulations? One of these officers re- • ceives the salary of _a, trifle, over £3OO & year, which, after all,, is the price of a foreman, and ‘ the board has the advantage of having .a highly qualified' man in its employ—one able in an emergency to take oyer control of. the entire undertaking. It seems to me that the board is to be congratulated on its foresight in retaining these two officers. As to the necessity of retaining the services 1 of these two employees, consider the huge growth of the Power Board’s business during recent years. It does not matter if the second engineer is called an engineer or a foreman;-he is still .absolutely necessary, and if he is discharged the •efficiency of the Pdwer Board will be inr terfered with.—l am, etc., Yet Another Ratepayer.
