Dunlop (Owaka) and 14-other residents asked council .to install ftn electric light Oh Tertae* •trheti—The matter was held Oyer,. . * The Commlseioner of Unemployment advised that the board had n 6 objection to the Wofk 6ft Cllfitoii-Wyndhatn road (widening) being done by unemployed.— It was decided to ask for a free grant of £6O, , ' "■• Attention was drawn to the danger of fire in dry weather resulting from the leaving of dry tops of manuka on the roadside by those engaged in cutting firewood, and asking the council to investigate the matter.—The Clerk Was asked to instruct those cutting firewood to burn' off dry manuka as feOon as possible. Mr J. J. Campbell (GlOhomaru) wrote drawing attention to the weak state of the bridge across the Glenomar u Stream leading to his property, and also to a deep hollow near the approach to the bridge.—lt wag decided that the work should be attended to. < ENGINEER’S REPORT. The report of the county engineer (Mr T, 8. Gould), detailing the work done during the month, was adopted. THE ESTIMATES. The sub-committee Set Up to make the estimates for the new year recommended an expenditure Of £6301 2s, of which £1921 6s-would be provided by the council. The (allocations are as follows (last year’s expenditure being given in parentheses) :—Dunedin-lnvercargill main Highway, £2050 (£2340 16s Ref); BaTcliithaPapatowai highway, £1574 7s 6d (£2029 os 4d); Owaka-Purekireki highway; £561 5d (£499 2s 3d); Balclutha-Kaka Point' highway, £439 (£497 13s 0d); WaiweraClydevalc highway. £125 (£236 16s Id): Clinton-Clydcvalo highway. £l9B Ila 3d (£l9B lls 3d); Waipalii-Pomahaka highway, £lO5 (£162 10s); M’Nab-Edievale highway, £2lO (£2ll Is 7(1); WaikakaKclso highway, £134; ferries . (Tuapcka Mouth punt, Clydevale punt, and PatCtai punt), £633 18s 2d (£675); bridges, £2so' '(£24B 6s). —The recommendations were adopted.
