SUCCESSES IN AUSTRALIA

Aberdeen Angus cattle from New Zealand are worthily upholding the standard of the Dominion’s pedigree stock abroad. At the Sydney Royal Show the female championship was awarded to the four-year-old New Zealand-bred cow, N6fa ot Waiterenui, bred by the president of the New Zealand Aberdeen Angus Society, Mr W. A. M'Farlane (of Hastings) , ihia is the sixth year in succession that a New Zealand-bred cow has won the championship at the Sydney Royal Show in competition, with cattle bred in Australia of imported from Scotland and Canada. Nora of Waiterenui was champion at the New Zealand Royal Show last November. Prior to being Snipped to Sydney, Nora of Waiterenui was mated to the Lew Zealand Royal champion bull, Sumach of Gwavns, which bull Sir James Murdoch, a noted Australia breeder who recently visited New Zealand, considered hue of the two best bulls of the breed he had seen out of Scotland. Last year’s champion cow, Celandine of Glenelg. bred, by Mr J, W. The Reserve Championship in females was awarded to another New Zealandbrefl Cow in Kofan of Waiterenui. .Signal honours fell to two daughters of atm another New Zealand-bred cow in Twinkle of Ben Lomond, as her daughters. Twinkle 2nd and Twinkle 4111, Secured both the championship and reserve at the Brisbane Royal Show, while lief Sou, Bald Blair Star, a first prizC-winnCr at tlie Sydney Royal Show, realised 380 guineas at auction. All of the above cattle were selected for export by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., who report having recently sold to Sir J allies Murdoch, C.M.G., of Bendooley, Berriiia, New South Wales, three heifers and two bulls from the studs of Messrs W. A. M'Farhmo and W. Kinross White, Hastings (Hawke’s Bay). The three heifers bred by Mr M'Fatlane comprised the tWO-year-olds Pennant and Pansy of Waiterenui, the former sired by the imported bull Eland of Bleaton

(now defunct), and the latter by that good breeding bull, Sentry of Woodlands, while the yearling heifer, Ruth of Waiterenui, is a daughter of a noted sire of winners in Nelson of Waiterenui. The two bulls bred by Mr Kinross White comprised the two-year-old Lupin of Omaranui, by his former champion bull, Commander of Omaranui, and the yearling bull, Marble of Omaranui, by Honest of Matapihi. , The same firm also shipped to New South Wales recently the two-year-old bull Ethiopia of Gwavas, bred by the estate of the late A. 6. S. Carlyon, Tikokino, Hawke’s Bay. This was a very high class bull, sired by Samson of Ben Lomond, and coming from the same family as the great champion cow, Celandine of Glenelg.
