Ministerial. The Minister of Finance and Customs (Mr W. Downie Stewart) arrived in Dunedin by the express from the north on Saturday. Mr Justice MacGregor arrived in Dunedin from the north on Saturday afternoon. Mr 0. A, Hamer was a passenger on board the Monowai, which left Wellington on Friday for Sydney. The llev. W. Saunders left on Saturday morning by the express for the north, cn route for Wellington.

Dr J. Gumming was a passenger by the mid-day express for the north on Saturday, cn route for Wellington. It is the intention of Dr Gumming, who was accompanied by his wife, to spend six weeks’ holiday in the North Island. Miss Eunice Meredith left by the express for Christchurch on Saturday morning. Mr James Trench, South Island representative of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., accompanied by Mr Sayeagh (secretary-treasurer) arrived from Invercargill last night after attending the opening of the Civic Theatre at Invercargill. Messrs Trench and Sayeagh are making arrangements for the opening of the Grand Theatre on Saturday. Mr It. Keenan, publicity manager of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., who has been in Dunedin for the past few days, will return to Wellington on Wednesday. Mr I. 0. Sanders, the principal of the Bible Training Institute, Auckland, arrived in Dunedin on Friday last by the northern express. He is to take part in the Pounawea Convention at Christmas time.

Messrs J. D. Knowles and E. N. Stewart, of Messrs E. Wilson and Co., left by the first express on Saturday morning en route to Auckland. Mr Knowlcs will catch the Mariposa at Auckland and continue his trip to Honolulu and San Francisco A British Official Wireless message, received from London on Saturday, states that an attack of paratyphoid fever from which Lady Maud Carnegie has been suffering for some days is following the usual course, and her progress is regarded as satisfactory. Mr John Sheppard, of Musselburgh, has consented to be a candidate for election to the Otago Education Board for the vacancy caused by the death of Mr James Horn. Mr Sheppard, was a fanner for many years in the Lauder district and has an intimate knowledge of Central Otago, and in recent years has resided in St. Kilda.

During the tea adjournment at the match between Albion and Kaikorai at Logan Park on Saturday afternoon, Mr J. J. Clark, president of the Albion Club, on behalf of the members, presented the club captain (Mr H. Vorrath) with a small gift as a mark of appreciation of the services he has rendered to the club over a long period of years. In making the presentation, Mr Clark paid a warm tribute to Mr Vorrath, stating that among all the workers on behalf of the club, none had looked after its interests so staunchly and loyally as its club captain, Mr Vorrath, who briefly replied, was accorded three hearty cheers by the assembled teams. Miss Diana Harris, niece of Viscount Sidmouth, will arrive in New Zealand by the Eangitata, due at Auckland on December 21 (says a Press Association telegram from Wellington). She will remain in the Dominion for some time, having been appointed by their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Bleclisloe to assist in the duties of their personal staff. A Press Association cablegram from Suva states that Mrs W. R. Rutherford, wife of the manager of the pacific cable station at Suva, who joined the Aorangi en route to Bamfielcl with her husband, died shortly after leaving port from heart failure. The body was buried at sea.

Prior to the closing of the Normal School for the holidays four teachers who were severing their connections with the school were entertained by the other members of Hie staff at a social in the kindergarten room. Miss D. Boyd has been promoted to the position of head teacher of Awamoko School; Mr Stevens and Miss Foster, assistants in charge of Model T and Model II schools respectively, and Miss Hendry, from the infant department, have, through the closing of the Training College, been transferred to other positions. The headmaster (Mr W. A. Sproat) referred to the valuable work performed by each of the departing teachers, and, on behalf of their colleagues, presented to each a token of appreciation of their services and comradeship. The chairman of the Advisory Committee (Mr E. G. Watts) and Mr A. Milne also spoke. Each of the recipients made suitable replies.
