OTAGO MOTOR CLUB
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the Otago Motor Club was held in the clubrooms, Mr F. W. Breen presiding. Correspondence was received from the South Island Motor Union advising that the quarterly meeting was postponed and also that the amended lists of hotels and camping grounds were available to members.
The chief postmaster wrote advising that the change of 'telegraphic address to “ Secauto ” was approved, this now being the address of every motor club in New Zealand.
The Taranaki Association wrote thanking the club for particulars of the working of the school patrols, and stating that it had adopted this scheme in its district.
The Taieri County Council wrote thanking the club for its assistance with regard to wandering stock on the main roads.
The Southland Motor Association gave particulars of the old coach road from Clinton to Mataura, stating that there were about four miles of clay road that were quite safe in fine weather. For the benefit of campers a store would bo situated at Cascade Creek, on the Eglinton Valley road, during the Christmas holidays, whilst other tradesmen would be calling regularly. Mr Breen reported that good work was being done at the corner at the railway, crossing at Round Hill (on the MiltonLawrence road). The embankment would be cut away to give good visibility and safeguard the road traffic.
Particulars were received of the train service for the transport of cars between Springfield and Otira during the holidays. A framted picture of the log cabin at Hanmcr was received from the Canterbury Association with thanks. The town clerk wrote thanking the club for its assistance in having the patrolman directing motorists to park correctly on the Moray place area. Wellington Automobile Club wrote requesting particulars of the Green Island tollgato and the method adopted to have it dismantled, as a toll was being placed on the Plimmerton bridge. Mr Curtis reported that the kitchen at the motor camp and the signboard at the gate had been painted. Facilities were available to handle a large crowd of motorists.
Mr Thorn reported that a total of 22 road signs had been erected on the Main South road at Waipahi, Conical Hills, directing to Tapanui and Waikoikoi. The committee submitted a further 1G signs which were approved by the executive. Mr Williams reported that the club had. during Mr Tyndall’s visit, placed before him the necessity of attention being given to the main highway on the OtokiaHenley section and the sealing of the remaining portion of the Broad Bay-Porto-hcllo highway. Ho was pleased to state that these matters would be attended to in the New Year. Mr MTnnos, on behalf of the motor cycle section, applied for permission to hold beach races on the Waikouaiti Beach on February IS, which was granted. Mr Breen stated that this was the last meeting this year and thanked the executive for their support, wishing them the compliments of the season.
