“CHRISTMAS CHEER ” EFFORT. An enjoyable time was spent on tbe Queen’s Park, Mosgiel, on Saturday afternoon, when a “ Christmas Cheer ” sports gathering was held. The function was under the auspices of the Mosgiel Association Football Club in co-operation with the Ministers’ Association. The younger folks naturally gained the most amusement from the programme, but there was much to entertain the older people as well. The Mosgiel Municipal Band played some selections at the opening and then seven races for boys and a lute number for girls were held. There were large entries, and the youngsters competed very keenly for the places. Some novel races were included in the programme, such as a sack race, catch-the-train race, tyro race, slow bicycle race, three-legged race, relay race, etc. A treasure hunt provided much amusement. A feature of the afternoon was the quickstep given by Mosgiel Municipal and Taicri Highland Pipe Bands, At 3.30 o’clock Father Christmas arrived A parade of children headed by the pipe band was held, and Christmas gifts distributed. Those responsible for the arrangements must be complimented on thf success achieved.
