UNEMPLOYMENT
RELIEF WORKERS’ WAGES THE TEN PER CENT. CUT BOARD’S ATTITUDE CRITICISED (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 18. Archbishop Averill expresses disappointment at the decision of the Unemployment Board not to restore the recent 10 per cent, cut in relief wages. All fair-minded citizens, he said, would endorse the attempts which had been made to impress upon the Unemployment Board the gravity of the reduction. The churches were of one mind in urging upon the Government the seriousness of the step taken and the terrible hardships inflicted upon honest men and tens of thousands of suffering wives and children. The mayors of a number of Auckland boroughs bitterly criticise the Government’s attitude. LOCAL ACTIVITIES GROUPS TO REPORT The following groups will commence work at 8 a.m. to-day:—
