PIE FOR THE KING
OLD IRISH CUSTOM DUBLIN, December 3. Dublin is speculating on the attitude that will be adopted by the new Gov-ernor-General, Mr Donald Buckley, concerning the Christmas present of “ four and twenty woodcocks baked in a pie ” that has been sent to the King of England by Irish Viceroys for the past 114 years. * Messrs Healy and M'Neill observed the custom, the pie, accompanied by Christmas greetings, being delivered to the King by special courier, but it is considered that there is “ Buckley’s chance ” of a pie being sent this year.
