VICTOR SMITH IN TROUBLE SAVED BY PARACHUTE, (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 16. Victor Smith, who was flying from Croydon to Capetown, met with a serious mishap near St. Malo to-day when, at a low altitude, his engine failed and he jumped from the machine with his parachute. He landed ..safely, but the plane was badly damaged. MRS MOLLISON’S PROGRESS. BOUND FOR CROYDON. LONDON, December 16. Mrs Army Mollison arrived at Oran from Beni Onuif. ORAN, December 17. Mrs Mollison left for Croydon at 5 a.m. PARIS, December IS. (Received Dec. 19, at 0.28 a.m.) Mrs Mollison encountered bad weather after leaving Oran, whither she returned and restarted at sunrise. Proceeding north she was delayed by head winds and bad visibility during the day. The oil filter was continually troublesome. She tried hard to reach Croydon, but when above Beauvais she ran into a fog bank and as night was at hand she decided to land at Le Bourgct, which she found with difficulty, and arrived exhausted. She was warmly welcomed. She will fly to Croydon to-day. Mrs Mollison has established a Cape-town-Lc Bourgct record, and can still beat the Duchess of Bedford and Barnard’s record of Cape to Croydon. HINKLER’S PROJECT. REDUCING THE RECORD. LONDON, December 17. (Received Dec. 18, at 7.20 p.m.) Hinkler has completed plans for a flight to Darwin. He believes he can do the trip in four or five days and intends to arrive at Darwin bcfoic Christmas.
