SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Those who eh joy swimming of the highest standard should attend the Municipal Baths to-morrow night, when the Otago intermediate and junior championships and the men’s 220yds championship will be decided. The carnival promises to be one of the most interesting staged this year, and the entries for the championships are the best received since these divisions were instituted. The great -attraction of the nighf; will be the meeting of Walter Jarvis (New Zealand 50yds record holder) and R. Geddes in the 100yds and 220yds intermediate free style events. Each holds one of these titles, and in the 100yds particularly sensational time is anticipated. The 220yds should, also be a line race, while Geddes is expected to go close to lowering his own New Zealand record in the 100yds intermediate boys’ breast-stroke championship. .. The intermediate girls’ division sliduld see some lino racing between Misses W, Newall, N. Olds, G. Rix, M. Pockson, J. Liddicoati<E. Morrison,'and O. Ferguson, and in the junior boys’ division S. Jarvis (the New Zealand junior'-boys’ champion) is expected, to return fast times. The junior girls Are a matched lot, while the men’s 220yds ediampionship should-be one of the best races seen here for some time, as it has drawn eight entries. Novelties and diving exhibition complete; what -should be a most attractive programme. -
