(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILTON, December 18. BOWLING. Four rinks from Lawrence Club visited Milton on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by a ladies’ rink, to play a return match which was postponed from the previous Saturday owing to heavy rain. The weather was delightful. The local ladies’ rink was defeated 25—17, but in the men’s match Milton were victorious in every rink, and won by 28 points. Scores (Milton names first); — Groundwater, Kempthorne, Farrell, Cuff 23, Bell, Moore, Dunn, Parkhill 18; Powley, Kennard, M'Callum, Devanney 25, Pearson, Beam, M'Kinlay, M'Corkindalo 10; Clark, Moroney, Lillicrapp, Marshall 22, Brookes, O’Leary, Roger, Arthur 15; Currie, Hitchon, Ransome, Wethey 20, Brookes, Lockhart, Crozier, M‘Kenzie 19. Totals; Milton 90, Lawrence 62. Ladies’ Rink. —Mrs Stewart,-Mrs Wilson, Miss Farrell, Mrs Gray 17, Hits Bulfin, Robertson, Mrs Morris, Mrs Dunn 25. CRICKET. After a fortnight’s postponement, shield matches in the northern division of the South Otago competition were resumed on Saturday afternoon. Milburn received a visit from Milton A, which it defeated by the substantial margin of 103 runs, and thus attained an unassailable position for supremacy for the northern division. Milton B team received a visit from Waihola and won by 94 runs. Milton A v. Milburn. In the shield match between the oldtime rivals, played on Milburn groundin glorious summer weather, the home team batted first and scored 151, towards which D. Bowie gave a bright batting display and topped the score with 71. He. was capably supported by H. Collings (23) and H. Wisely (24). The bowling honours for Milton A were shared by W. Hawke (two for 43), M. Devanney (five for 69), and H. Heads (three for 16). Milton A teapi collapsed against the destructive bowling of F. Bowie (four for nine) and J. Kane, jun, (three; for 18), and were dismissed for the meagre total of 48. The only do.uble-figure contributors were M. Devanney (12), W, Hawke (12), and R. Olver (10).
Milton B v. Waihola. Milton B and Waihola met on the local ground. Milton batted first, and knocked up 159 runs. The first-wicket partnership between E. Olver (37) and W. Heads (38) realised 68 before a separation was effected. Another good innings for 36 was played by J. Wilson, and the other double-figure contributors were J. Hood and J. M'Donald with 16 each. Waihola were dismissed for 65, the highest scorers being D. Sinclair (15), W. Sinclair (15), and A. Sinclair ill). The most successful bowlers for Milton B were T. Roberts (two for none). J. M'Donald (three for 19). and J. Hood (three for 19).
