SWIMMING

MEETING OF CENTRE A meeting of delegates to the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association wms hold last evening. Mr W. A. Jenkins presided. The secretary reported that the entries for the Otago junior and intermediate championship meeting were highly satisfactory. The number constituted a record for the junior and intermediate championships, and everything pointed to the meeting being a highly satisfactory one. A letter was received from the Alexandra Swimming Club stating that the most suitable date for a carnival would be a Saturday afternoon in January. The club requested particulars regarding the advantages of being affiliated with the centre. —It was left to the secretary to supply the necessary information regarding affiliation. A letter was received from the St. Clair Improvement Association stating that the association would be prepared to consider any feasible scheme for the improvement of the St. Clair baths. Should such suggestions meet with the approval of the executive it would be prepared to support these,, and make representations to the City Council accordingly.—Received. A telegram was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Council stating that it would be possible to arrange for two appearance of Kalili and Kurtz after the championship meeting. The cost would be about £oo.—The secretary reported that he had replied that the cost was too high. The secretary suggested that some well known Australian swimmer should be invited to visit New Zealand. —After a good deal of discussion it was decided that the information convoyed by the secretary should be confirmed. It was decided to hold the Otago senior championship meeting on February 2, and the Batt Cup harbour race on February 4. It was decided that the centre should hold a whole polo night on a date to be arranged. Tiie chairman was appointed sole selector for the polo team.
