One of the biggest spring-cleans in the world is carried out by men. It is the spring-cleaning of the British Museum library, which contains some 3,200,000 books on its 50 miles of shelves. Some 70 men do the job twice yearly, but they cannot manage to dust every volume individually. The superficial dust, however, is removed. There are other libraries where spring-cleaning is an even bigger job, because the number of books is larger. The French National Library in Paris contains over 6,000,000 books, manuscripts, maps, and prints; and the Itussian State Library in Leningrad can ooast of over 4,800,000 books and 120,000 manuscripts.
