CITY POLICE COURT

Monday, July 11. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. George Thomas Murray Stewart, a statutory first offender for drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. Four first offenders were each fined £os, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment, and another first offender was fined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. MOTORIST CHARGED. A man, the publication of whose name was suppressed until the facts of the case are gone into, was charged with being intoxicated whilst in charge of a motor car. Sub-inspector Cameron stated that the accused was seen driving his car in an erratic manner along the Anderson’s Bay road towards the overbridge at 11.35 p.m. on Saturday. He was obstructing a tram car, and when the tram driver gave him warning, he drove to the left hand side of the road, and attempted to pass between another car and the kerb while there was only about three feet of space in which to do so. As a result he ran oh to the footpath and collided with a telegraph post. He was arrested by a constable who was riding in the tram, —On the application of counsel the accused was remanded until Friday, bail being allowed in one surety of* £lO. INDECENT EXPOSURE. William Fraser appeared for sentence on five charges of indecent exposure.After reviewing the evidence the magistrate said that there was no doubt in his own mind that the accused had exposed himself wilfully. He would be convicted on two charges, and the other three would be dismissed, and he would be remanded for a week in order that he might undergo medical examination and that the probation officer might prepare a report. BREACH OF PROHIBITION ORDER. Christopher Hoggart Marr was charged with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order against him. -—He was fined 20s and costs (10s), in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. MAINTENANCE, Walter Boreham was charged with the disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears amounting to £O9 ss. The defendant made application to have the order varied. —After hearing evidence by the defendant the magistrate remitted the arrears over £lO, and the order was varied to 10s a week. The information for disobedience of the order was dismissed.
