RECTOR OF STIFFKEY

• SERVICE TAKEN AS USUAL REFERENCE TO RECENT CASE. LONDON, July 10. The Rev. H. Davidson’s married sister and three other women went to the church at Stiffkey to-day. Mr Davidson said, prior to preaching, that the whole of the terrible business was a blow to the ,church. “There were ridiculous charges,” he declared, “and the methods were grossly disgraceful. If the case should result in the complete overhaul of-the Consistory Court I shall.be glad to suffer in order to secure the reform of an appalling system.”

The sermon referred to Christ’s association with the lowest of the low, and His tenderness to outcast women.

Mr Davidson intended to take the afternoon service at Morston, but found the church doors locked. He gathered an audience in the churchyard, sent for a Bible and a Prayer Book, and conducted a service.
