TAPANUI NOTES ♦ (Feom Cue Own Cobbespondent.) TAPANUI, July 11. POULTRY AND PRODUCE CLUB. The Tapanui Poultry and Produce Club held its forty-fourth _ annual show on Saturday, which was in every respect a success, 'although the total number of entries fell short of last year’s total. The judge of the poultry section (Mr George Kerr, Riversdale) said that the display of poultry was a very creditable one, but hardly up to the usual standard, and also that the competition was not quite as keen as in former years. Mr A. T. Newman (Gore), who judged the garden produce, said that the competition in potatoes was good, although entries were not as numerous as usual. Carrots and parsnips had been better. Celery, Brussell’s sprouts, and beet were all good, whilst the marrows made a pleasing display. The savoy cabbages were fresh and clean. In the fruit section Mr D. Martin, of Beaumont, carried off all the prizes. All his fruit was exceptionally well grown and right up to export standard. Mr M. Ferguson, the veteran judge of field produce, stated that the swedes were the best he had even seen exhibited, and that there was not one entry that did not deserve a prize. In Aberdeen green tops the size was righlj, but the majority of the turnips did not cut too well. Purple tops were much better than the green tops variety,, the first ■ prizewinner being especially good. White fleshed turnins were a good lot, whilst any other variety were not particularly good. Mr R. F. Sim (Heriot) judged the grain classes and selected ryegrass and cocksfoot as being very good samples. Velvet ear wheat showed the results of the unfavourable weather, whilst the oats, although up to the standard, were also affected by the weather, but not to the same extent as the wheat. The prize list is as follows: — Bantam.
