OATH OF ALLEGIANCE
THE BILL FOR ABOLITION INDEPENDENT'S.. OPPOSITION (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 21. . Mr Frank M’Dcrmott (Independent), in opposing in the Dail the Bill removing the oath of allegiance, which was read a first time, .urged the Government to open negotiations with Britain for some more acceptable form of undertaking than the existing (This is taken to refer to a suggestion by Mr Frodshatn which Mr do V alera’s paper, (he Irish Press, prominently displays.) Mr M'Dennott urged the Free State if it wished to delete the oath to go to the other partners of the Commonwealth of Nations and suggest that the oath would become an anomaly, either because of the Statute of W estminster or for some other reason, and that another symbol of allegiance should be adopted instead.
