A MIAMI MYSTERY

DEATH OF AN AVIATOR INVESTIGATION BEING HELD. NEW YORK, April 21. A piessage from Miami states that Mrs Keith Miller and Captain Lancaster are held in the county gaol for an investigation into the shooting of Haden Clark, an aeroplane pilot here. Statements given to the police by the two ascribed the wound in Clark’s bead to an attempt to commit suicide. Mrs Miller said she was awakened shortly before daylight by Captain Lancaster. who told her that Clark had shot himself. She said she went with Captain Lancester to where Clark’s body lay and saw a pistol under the body. Captain Lancaster said he and Clark retired to the porch in which they slept about 10.45 a.m. “We talked for about an hour of home troubles and several other things,” he said.. He was awakened by a report. Some time later he heard Clark making funny noises. “ I turned on the light. His face was covered with blood and he was lying on his side. 1 ran to Mrs Miller’s room and got her up.” Later he called a psysician and an attorney. Clark was taken to hospital. Mrs Clark, mother of the injured man, said tlie police showed her a typewritten note to Mrs Miller, which said: “I cannot stand the economic pressure. Will you please sustain my mother in her deep grief?” Mrs Clark said she could not be sure that the signature was her sou’s, but she expressed the opinion that he shot himself.
