ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
POISONED BY GAS (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 13. Finger prints played a part in the establishing of the identity of Alexander Malcolm M'Leod, who was found dead * n a gas-filled room at Lyall Bay on Sunday. The deceased, who was in receipt of a soldier’s pension, had been an inmate of a mental home. He had been in the habit of sleeping on the hills, and had discussed suicide. There was £25 to his credit in the Savings Bank. A verdict of suicide by gas poisoning was returned. BODY FOUND AT SEA (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 13. The body found in the sea off Godley Head yesterday has been identified as that of Charles Robert Henry Robertson, formerly supervisor of the Post Office Savings Bank, who had been missing since September 25. Evidence was given at the inquest that he had been in bad health fop years, but. had never spoken of doing away with himself. His affairs were all in order. The coroner found that Robertson died on September 25, but there was no evidence of how he came by his death. INQUEST ADJOURNED (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 13. 'An inquest was held into the death of Thomas Hugh Eric Monro, who was drowned at Waikuku yesterday. James Denis Simpson said he got into difficulties in the undertow and shouted to Monro that it would take them all their time to get back. Monro was nearer the shore than witness, and when he last saw him he was standing in three or four feet of water. Witness, who could not swim, floated, ashore. Neither had been out of their depth. The coroner said he was not quite satisfied as to the cause of death, and adjourned the inquest sine die to enable a post mortem examination to be made.
