MUNICIPAL ORGAN RECITAL

One of the finest attendances yet seen at a municipal organ recital enjoyed the delightful programme provided by the city organist (Dr V. E. Galway) in the Town Hall last evening. The programme was oqe of unusual interest, and found especial favour with the audience. Every phase of great organ music was explored in a highly-exacting selection, and the audience showed unstinted appreciation. Handel’s popular Concerto in F major made a bright opening, and was followed by two Bach choral preludes which displayed deep emotional intensity. The Suite Gothique was well received, the priere movement finding special favour and the toccata receiving an excellent treatment. Schubert’s “ Cradle Song ” formed a beautiful preface to Wagner’s “ Ride of the Valkyrie ” which followed. “ Finlandia,” the sonorous and majestic tone poem by Sibelius, was wonderfully done. The audience expected much, and was not disappointed. Rubinstein’s “Reve Angelique” and Frederic Wood's “ Morris Dance,” followed by the William Tell overture, were the final features of a prognsmme which represented the most popular items offered during the past year.
