“OLD WIVES’ FABLES”
DEAN INGE ON SPIRITUALISM. « The less vou have to do with spiritualism the better,” said Dean Inge, m a recent sermon. " The whole subject of eternal life, the dean said, “is beyond us. The pictures we have are only symbolic and intended to exclude the idea that death is the end of all things. The real truth probably differs very widely from our notions ot for the spiritualistic superstitions which are now so rife among us, I am almost ashamed to mention them. Old wives’ fables about ghostly apparitions have been popular always and everywhere, but that is not the kind of immortality that Christianity teaches us, nor thav which any sensible person would desire for himself or his friends. _ “Even when this superstition masquerades in scientific dress, I tell you the less you have to do with it the better.
