Mr C. K. Couston and Miss Couston went north by train on Saturday on their way to the Islands. Mr J. C. Farrell came to Dunedin on Saturday morning from Invercargill. Mr L. J. Stevens, after a brief visit to Dunedin, left on Saturday for Auckland. ' Mr John Norrie, of Lawrence, went to Christchurch by the express train on Saturday. Mrs W. Begg, of North-East Valley, returned to Dunedin on Saturday after a visit to Sydney. Mr Richard Hudson went to Christchurch by train on Saturday. Mr E. H. Lough travelled to Christchurch by the express train on Saturday. 'Mr D. S. Wunsch, managing director of the Sugar of Milk Company at Edendale, passed through Dunedin on Saturday on bis way to Wellington. Mr A. Ball went by train oh Saturday from Invercargill to Christchurch. Mr A. E. Reynolds, clerk of the Magistrate’s Court, Dunedin, returned from Wellington on Saturday after attending a conference of the Public Service Association. Messrs F. Waite (Clutha), A. E. Ansell (Chalmers), and A. Hamilton, members of Parliament, were passengers by the through express from Christchurch on Saturday afternoon. Mr P. C. Carman, of Otago University, left Wellington for Sydney on Saturday, en route to London, where he is to take up research work at the London University for two years, _ having been awarded the 1851 Exhibition science scholarship. He is a son of Mr _A. C. Carman, of Invercargill, formerly of Wellington. , • ' Mr B. Cochran, manager of the Timaru branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company for the past five ydars, has received notice of his transfer to the position of assistant-manager at Wanganui, which is one of the company’s largest businesses in the North Island.* Mr Cochran will take up Ms new duties early in September. Dr Murray Scott, late house surgeon at the Southland Hospital, left Invercargill last week on his way to the Old Country. At present he is visiting his brother, Mr R. B. Scott, at New Plymouth, and after spending some Auckland he will sail finally from Wellington on September 10. Dr Scott will continue his studies at Edinburgh versity with a view to gaining his' Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, and it is anticipated that he will be away for 18 months.
