Ministerial. The Attorney-general and Leader of the Legislative Council (Sir Thomas Sidey) will return to Wellington on Thursday morning. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr A. J. Murdoch) left last night for • Dunedin (telegraphs our special correspondent), where he will officially open the Dominion Fertiliser Works to-morrow. On Thursday he will visit the Lawrence and Gabriel’s Gully areas in connection with mining matters. He is due back in Wellington on Saturday morning. Mr R. W. Baxter, of Colombo, is at present staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr J. D. Eevie, president of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, was a passenger for the north by the through express yesterday Mr John Fisher, of Invercargill, was a passenger for Wellington by the through express yesterday. v Mr A. J. Ridler, inspector of offices, or the Public .Works Department, was a passenger for Wellington by the through express yesterday. , ■ Sergeant E. Turner, of the police force, who has been stationed at Waimate for the past two years and a-half, is at present • spending a holiday in Dunedin. . Mr D. Tannock was a. passenger for Wellington by the mid-day express yesterday. He is to attend a conference or members of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, . „ Mr F. Chapman, manager in New Zealand of the Neuchatel Asphalt Company, left on his return to Auckland by the through express yesterday. Mr W. F. Abel left by the through express yesterday for Wellington, where he will attend a meeting of the -executive of the New Zealand Educational Institute. In recognition of his record of 25 years; in representative cricket in New Zealand, a presentation was made to Mr A. Anthony, the Auckland representative player, during the luncheon adjournment at the Plunket Shield cricket match between Auckland and Wellington yesterday (reports our special correspondent in Auckland). The presentation took the the form of a canteen of cutlery. Dr Furnivall, of Westward Ho, Devon, returned to Dunedin on Sunday night from a walking tour to Milford Sound, and went north by the mid-day express yesterday. „ , , , Mr A. J. Campbell, who has been manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Gore for the past four years and a-half, has received notice of his promotion to_ the managership of the Blenheim branch of the bank. Mr Campbell will be succeeded at Gore by Mr H. G. Scott, of Waimate. Prior to going to Gore Mr Campbell was manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Balclutha. ... T , Advice has been, received from London that Mr Edgar C. Smith has passed the examination admitting him to the Institute of Civil Engineers. He was educated at the Otago Boys High School, and, after matriculating, took the engineering course at the Otago University and Canterbury College, Mr Smith is at present on the staff of the city engineer, Wellington. <v
