A MYSOGYNIST OF THE CAMERA.
There is a photographer in London who docs not take photographs of women. He ■is not a woman hater; he merely considers that most women’s faces arc lacking in character and expression. This revolutionary maestro of the camera is Mr Howard Coster, the only photographer in London to devote himself exclusively to taking portraits of men. When a Sunday Chronicle representative called on him recently to ask him the reason for his ban on the female sex ho gallantly hastened to rcraov. the suspicion that he docs not like women. “As a matter of fact I like women very much,” he said, “ but I don’t admire their beauty. “ Soft dimples, a smooth skin, or a peach complexion do not appeal to me. Mere prettiness is not beauty. “ Rarely, but very rarefy, I meet a woman whom T should like to photograph. She is invariably a woman who has achieved something and for that reason js devoid of ordinary feminine prettiness. “ But a man is altogether different. The lines of his face are broad, clear cut, well defined. His face has character and personality, and it is interesting to bring out his expression, and then capture it ; with the camera. ■ “ Men arc much bettor sitters than women. They are more patient, less exacting.”
