ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

BODY FOUND UNDER BRIDGE. (Per United Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, January 22. At the inquest to-day concerning the death of John Blumberg, aged 50, whose body was found under the Government bridge near Ongarue on Tuesday, evidence was given that deceased prior to the fatality was acting in a peculiar manner. A verdict that the deceased committed suicide while of unsound mind was returned. OLD MAN’S DEATH. STRUCK BY ENGINE. An old man named Duncan Macpherson, 78 years of age, was struck by a railway engine at the Tumai station at about 11.30 yesterday morning. He was removed to Palmerston by train, and was attended by Dr Thomas, but he died an hour later. An inquest will he held at Palmerston to-day. The deceased, who was a widower, lived with his daughters at Tumai.
