WELLINGTON RACING CLUB.

LADY PAM WINS BIG EVENT. METROPOLITAN TO COMPENSATION (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 22. The Wellington Racine Club’s summer meeting was continued at Trentham today in fine, warm weather. The track was dead after the first day’s rain. The racing was much better - than on the first day, the majority of finishes being hard fought. Lady Pam lay well back early in the Racing Club Handicap, moved up on the turn, and took the lead halfway up the straight. Otairi came with a late run, but failed to get up, beating Nightmareh on the post for second place. Compensation came from the middle of the field to win the Metropolitan Handicap in a stirring finish. . The Douro Cup was won decisively by Ball Dress. 1 Cricket Bat and Solvent fell in the two-year-old- handicap. G. Humphries, the rider of Solvent, broke his collarbone, and an inquiry found that the accident was due to crossing by Fedora. The rider (K. Voitre) was suspended for one month. The attendance was large, but below the average on Anniversary Day. The totalisator handled £53,413 10s, as compared with £85,727 10s for the same day last year, a decrease of £32,314.
