RIFLE SHOOTING.

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB. Tha Dunedin Defence Rifle Club shot tbe first competition for prizes presented by Mr R. M. Greenslade on Saturday afternoon. There was an attendance of 19, and 10 shots (two optional sight era) each were fired at SOO and 600 yards. A strong wind and an uneven light militated against high scoring, especially at 600 yards. Rfm. W. A. Graham was highest scorer at 500 yards with 48 and also headed the day’s aggregate with 86. Rfm. J, C, Thomson was top scorer at 600 yards with 44. The following are the highest scores:—

KAITANGATA CLUB. The Kaitangata Defence Club held a practice shoot on Saturday over the 500 and 600 yards ranges. Though the dhy was dull with a strong breeze from the left front, some fairly good scores were registered, Dep.-president W. D. Carson scored 48, _ and J. H. Frazer 47 at 500 yards, while at 600 yards President M. Brown (45) and J, H. Frazer (44) were the top scorers. _ President M. Brown fired a second time at 500 yards to turn the target for a late shot, and put on a possible. The following are the scores:—
