REDUCTION IN SALARIES.
COOK COUNTY COUNCIL. ‘ (Feb Ukited Chess Assochatios.) GISBORNE, December 18.' The Cook County Council decided that the following reductions in salaries and wages shall operate from February 1:—Up to £3OO, 10 per cent.; £3OO to £4O0 f 12J per cent.; £4OO and over, 15 pet cent.; wages of all workmen 10 pei cent.; horse hire 20 per cent. The council also decide to allow ar extra month's grace before Hie enforce* ment of the penally on overdue rates.
