(From Qvz Own Correspondent.* BALCLUTHA, November 29.A LATE FROST. A late frost did considerable damage to early potatoes in Balclutha gardens on Thursday night. Next day the weather was beautifully fine, but that did not compensate the owners /of garden plots where every potato haul was blackened. OWAKA COURT. At Thursday’s - sitting of the Owaka Court William Gorman was fined 6s, with ■costs (10s), lor exposing lice-infected sheep at the Owaka sale yards. Leslie M'Cullough was charged with negligently driving a motor car on the Tahakopa road. The evidence of Constable Dark was that the defendant was driving on the wrong side of the road,, and had collided with a service car, with, the result that two men had to be admitted to bosEital. The defendant was convicted and ned 30s, with costs (10s). Joseph George, charged on the information of Harry Adams, Glutha county ranger, with, allowing cattle to wander on the Kahuika road, was. fined £l/ with Costs (£l).. ' The magistrate. refused to make an order against Joseph Meek, an old man, who was proceeded against by the department for a maintenance order .in respect to three grandchildren, of whom William Thomas Renton was the father. The defendant, in hip evidence, said that he had paid maintenance for .the children for about 18 months, but bad stopped the payments' about three or four months ago, as he had.had to pay for his own daughter in hospital, and considered that the father of the children should do something. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. The official assignee proceeded against John Meek, jun,, on a claim for £lO 7a on a judgment summons. The debtor was examined at length by Mr Alloo as to his means, and the magistrate said he would adjourn the case to allow debtor to produce a statement of his’ actual earnings, George Sheddan claimed from William Renton the ,eum of £3 Is 4d on a judgment summons. An-order, was made for'the payment of 10s a month.. , ■- ,
