NORTH CANTERBURY BOARD'S LOSSES. £488,437 IN SEVEN YEARS, j • (Special to Dailt Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 28. Fees totalling £488,437 have been written off during the last seven years by the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The secretary (Mr W, S. Wharton) said that this sum related to 25, different institutions. Every effort was made to collect the fees, but the board was never oppressive. When a patient received treatment it was ascertained if hia account could be met, and if the circumstances warranted it the account was written down or arrangements mfade for it to be paid in instalments. The board made every effort to meet patients, and there were instances of accounts being paid at the rate of only 6s or 10s’ a month.
