SHIPMENT OF PRODUCE.
THE NEW FREIGHT CONTRACTS. (From Our’Own Correspondent.) LONDON, June 13. For some weeks negotiations have been in. progress between the shipping companies on the one hand and’the representhe produce boards on the other, regarding the triennial revision of . the freight contracts. An agreement has now been reached, in regard to dairy produce and meat, and the documents will be going out to New. Zealand for signature by to-day’s mail. The question of the freight on fruit has not yet-been settled,. The new agreement will take effect on .September 1, and remain in force for a period of three years. Both the Daii'y Board and the Meat Board obtain considerable advantage. In technical terms, they have obtained an increase in the reduction from the basic rate of 2# per cent. Whereas the rate was previously 12# per cent, below the basic rate, it is now 15 per cent. This will mean ■to the dairy producers c saving next season. of about £35,000. To the meat producers it will mean a saving of nearly £50,000.
