ALL BLACKS’ TRIAL MATCH. northTsland teams. (Pee United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., May 7. The North Island selectors, Messrs E. M'Kenzie. (Wairarapa), N, M'Kenzie (Hawke's Bay), and H. Nicolson (Auckland), met this morning'and selected the following North Island teams to play in the trial match here on Wednesday next: — Probables.—Full-back, Thomas (Waikato) , three-quarters—Fuller (Wairarapa), Ruru (Hawke’s Bay), Minns (Auckland); five-eighths, M. Nicholls (Wellington), L. Johnson (Wellington); half-back, Kilby (Wellington); wing forward, Solomon (Auckland); front row, Irvine (Wairarapa) and Palmer (Auckland) ; lock, Harvey (Wairarapa); supports, M‘Williams (Waikato) and A, Knight (Auckland); back row, Batty (Auckland) and M‘Kay (Hawke’s Bay). Possibles, Full-back, HeaSl-ewood (Wellington); three-quarters—Elvy (Wellington), Lucas (Auckland), Mackay (Wellington)five-eighths, Cooke (Wairarapa), M'Kenzie (Wellington); halfback, Corner (Auckland); wing-forward. Porter (Wellington); front row, Reid (Wairarapa) and Coulston (Wellington); lock, Steere (Hawke’s Bay); supports. Finlayson (North Auckland)- and Campbell (Hawke’s Bay); back row, Mahoney (Bush) and M'Lean (Taranaki), Emergencies.—Backs, Ball (Wellington), Stringfellow (Wairarapa); forwards, , Gerard (Bush), Jesspp (Wellington). • No nominations were received from the Wanganui and King' Country Unions, while those of the East Coast Union arrived too late to be considered. It is. however, the intention of the selectors to take them into account on the occasion of the New Zealand Probables v. Possibles match. The four emergencies for the North Island trial will be given the opportunity to prove their claims in the second spell of the local game. NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION. BRITISH TEAM’S VISIT. SEVERAL QUESTIONS DISCUSSED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. May 7. Before taking any -steps to change the colours of the Ail Black team for the matches against the British team the New Zealand Rugby Union intends waiting till the visitors arrive, when the possibilities of confusion will be considered. Several members at this evening’s meeting said they would be sorry to see any New Zealand team take the field m any other than the all black uniform. There wag a brief discussion as to the proposed Empire 'conference. The New Zealand Referees’ Association wrote concerning its “ representative at the conference to be held with the British team on its arrival."—The chairman (Mr S, S. Dean) said that was the first he had heard of a conference with the British team on its arrival. The manager (Mr James Baxter) would bo invited to attend the next New Zealand Union meeting. He mentioned that more than one overseas unions had offered the idea of an Empire conference, including the South African Rugby Board.—Mr ■H. Leith; “Well, that seems to be the end of it.” An assurance from the Rotorua Union that every assistance possible would bo given to make the British team’s stay there an enjoyable ope, and an offer to make first-hand arrangements concerning accommodation' and transport was received with thanjes. ' The Radio Broadcasting Company wrote expressing appreciation of the unions decision to grant permission fertile broadcasting of the British Rugby matches.—The letter was received, and the company ie to be asked to forward a definite statement of its actual proposals. »
