GORE STOCK SALE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) GORE, May 7. The fortnightly stock sale was held at Gore yesterday before a good attendance of farmers and buyers. Sheep.—There was an entry of over 1600, including 120 fats. The market for fats was much on a par with recent quotations. Good fat wethers made from 25s to 27s Od, while the only lot of ewes were of inferior quality. In the store pens a few lines of wethers were on offer, and good forward sorts made up to 225, and others up to 15s Id. A fair number of breeding ewes were forward, with a few lines of two-tooths, which realised up to 22s 6d. Full and failing-mouth ewes changed hands at from 9s Id to 12s 6d, and cull sorts 5s 9d down to Is 4d. A fair number of stdre lambs tfere offering, and sales were recorded at from 10s Cd to 13s for good sorts, while small and inferior quality realised 6s 9d down to 2s Od. A number of rams of fairly good quality found a market at from ljgns to Signs. Cattle. —There was a very large entry of cattle, nearly 160 head being penned, the entry being swelled by a large line of store cows and calves from Waimumu. The fat pens contained a fair number of good bullock's and heifers, but the market was not firm. A good clearance was, however, made at fair values. Heavy bullocks made £l2 to £l4 10s, and lighter sorts £7 to £lO 10s. Prime heifers made up to £l3 10s and lighter sorts £6 to £8 12s 6d. In the store pens steers and heifers realised from £3 14s to £7 ss, calves to £2 6s'6d, cows to £4 10s, and bulls £6 10s. CEYLON TEA SALES. The quantity offered at this week's tea auction in Colombo was 3,250,0001 b. A stronger tone prevailed for common teas, but other grades were slightly easier' in sympathy with quality, which was poor. Next week's catalogces will total 3,310,0001 b.
