TOURNAMENT IN WEST VIRGINIA. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) VANCOUVER, April 23. At the White Sulphur Spring (West Virginia) tennis tournament Mason and Dixon won championships. In the quarter-final to-day Allison defeated Doig, 7—9, 6—3, 6—3, o—2. Van Ryn defeated Mangin, I—o, C—2, C —3, 6—2; Lott defeated Mercur, o—o, G—4, o—2; Hunter defeated Bell by default, the latter, collapsing when within a point of taking the match. DAVIS CUP MATCH. ENGLAND AND GERMANY. LONDON, April 24. (Received April 25, at 5.5 p.m.) The Davis Cup match between England and Germany has been commenced at the Queen’s Club. Dr H. Landmann (Germany) beat H. W. Austin (England), o—3,0 —3, B—6, 5—7, 4—6, o—4, The other singles match was not finished owing to the failing light. Prenn (Germany) is leading Lee, 6—4, 7—9, o—3. The Austin-Landmann match resolved itself into a contest of youth versus, staying power, and the old complaint of cramp added to the English player’s difficulties. Showers interfered with both matches.
