A big programme of thrilling events lias been arranged by the management of the Speedway Royal for Saturday evening. Since the inception o£ this sport in Dunedin, a great many thorsands have experienced a new kind of sensation when the intrepid riders elide round the bende with the cindere flying, and then straighten up and race up the straights. A special attraction is promised for Saturday night, when Australia's foremost brbadsider will be introduced to Dunedin fans. Frank Pearce has earned for himself the reputation of being, one of the world's wonder riders. He has put up some wonderful performances both in Wellington and Auckland, record after record being broken by him. Pearce until recently held the world's four-lap record, while his quarter-mile is the world's fastest. On Saturday night at Wellington he gave a daring exhibition of. speed and broadsiding. His attempt on the four-lap record, which was successful, was a very skilful one. The first lap was travelled in 19 seconds, and the four laps completed in 76 seconds, lowering Charlie Spinks's. time by 1 4-sth eeconds. Besides making an attempt on the mile record, now held by Spinks, Pearce will be seen in 6pecial match races with Harrv Mangham and Chcrlie Pei-abo. Altogether, some 20 riders will be seen in action during the evening. It is hoped to have Wally Kilmister in Dunedin for next Wednesday.
