CHRISTIAN SCIENCE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— My purpose in writing to you ha 3 teen to correct misstatements concerning Christian Science and not to enter into * controversy. , . ' Words are used to express the thoughts of the -writer and if a reader misinterprets them ignorantly this error mar be corrected, trit if he does it intentionally he is dishonest, and in either case he is *n unreliable Notwithstanding dogmatic assertions by anonymous correspondents, Christian Science does not teach that sin, sickness, and death have no place in human experience—to human thought they seem very- real —but it does teach that they are no part of God's creation, A mistake in the working of a mathema tical problem is not corrected by ignoring it but by recognising it as contrary to the principles and rules of mathematics and eliminating it. Similarly, it is not by ignoring evils, but by understanding that they have no existence in truth, that Science destroys them and so proves their unreality. lira Eddy did not eliminate ideas from her book, " Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," nor di(F she in any way vary its teaching. Regarding revisions of this work, she wrote on page 301: "I have revised Science and Health only to give a clearer and fuller expression to ita original meaning." And her statement regarding its value has not heen deleted but is included on pnep 4a6. The statement of Indian philosophy attributed to Panditn Ramabai bears not the slightest resemblance to Christian Science, nor ts this surprising, seeing tha' jt was admittedly based on hearsay—on Borne person's misconception of Christian Science teaching. "Excerpta" challenges my assertion that Christ Jeßus set the standard whereby we may judge our understanding *f His teaching. Nevertheless, it is recorded in the Gospel according to Mark that Jesus declared: "These signs shall follow them that believe." —I am, etc., CETH3ERT S. BOOTH, Committee on Publication. Jlarch 29.
